What are empty leg flights?
Empty leg flights — also called repositioning flights — occur when a private jet
must fly without passengers to reach its next charter departure point. Operators
typically discount these flights by 50–75% below standard charter rates because an
empty flight generates no revenue. Routes and departure times are fixed by the
operator's schedule, but empty legs offer the only realistic path to flying private
at near-commercial costs. EmptyJet's AI system scans operator databases daily to
surface and score these opportunities in real time.
How does EmptyJet find flights?
EmptyJet aggregates empty leg and on-demand charter listings from operator websites,
charter marketplaces, and industry data feeds. Our AI pipeline normalizes routes,
aircraft types, and pricing, then cross-checks listings against operator sources
where possible. Each listing is scored against current market rates so you can
compare value at a glance. The platform refreshes continuously — new flights appear
throughout the day as operators publish repositioning opportunities.
Are there any fees to use EmptyJet?
Searching and comparing flights on EmptyJet is free. When you proceed with a
booking, pricing — including any applicable charges — is confirmed with the
operator before you commit. Our team coordinates availability and charter
terms on your behalf.
What does the scoring system mean?
EmptyJet scores each flight from 0 to 10 based on price versus estimated market rate
for the route and aircraft type, plus factors like departure timing and aircraft
category. A score of 7–8 means up to 25% below market; 9–10 signals an exceptional
deal. Scores help you prioritize among hundreds of listings without comparing raw
dollar amounts across different jet classes. See our
scoring methodology for the full breakdown.
What are the different accuracy levels?
Verified listings have been cross-checked against operator sources. Verified+Estimated
combines confirmed data with high-confidence AI estimates for listings still being
validated. Exploratory mode shows all available data including unverified listings —
useful for discovery, but availability should be confirmed through a booking request.
You can filter by accuracy level in search to match your risk tolerance.
How far in advance can I book?
Most empty leg flights are available 1–30 days before departure, with the majority
within seven days. Last-minute availability in the 24–48 hour window often offers
the deepest discounts because operators urgently want to offset repositioning costs.
EmptyJet shows departure dates and times clearly so you can plan quickly — empty legs
sell fast once published.
Can I change the route of an empty leg?
Empty legs have fixed routes set by the operator's repositioning needs. Some
operators allow minor deviations — typically within 100–200 km — for an additional
fee. Major route changes usually require a full charter booking at standard rates.

How many passengers can fly?
Passenger capacity depends on aircraft type. Light jets typically seat 4–8 passengers,
midsize jets 6–10, and heavy jets 10–16. Each EmptyJet listing shows the aircraft
model and maximum passengers. Empty legs use the same aircraft as regular charter —
amenities and baggage capacity vary by operator and jet class.
Is it safe to book empty legs?
Yes. Empty legs operate under the same aviation safety regulations as standard
charter flights — certified crews, maintained aircraft, and required insurance.
When you book through EmptyJet, our team coordinates with verified operators and
confirms availability before charter terms are finalized. Payment instructions are
provided by the operator after confirmation.
